SLM Care Services was founded in 2012 by Steven Tomlinson,
after he experienced many problems accessing the right care packages and
accommodation for his father when he started with the early stages of dementia
in 2004.
The family were not aware of what to expect when looking
after someone with dementia, and the social services were helpful but very
limited as they have a large caseload and a small budget, so it took 5 years of
moving care agencies, accessing the correct support both physical and financial
and re-housing Stevens father before he was stabilised.
He now still lives independently in a sheltered house scheme
and has all the care required, helping him live a quality
life, but this came at a price as the family was torn apart in this period.
Steven felt there must be a better way to help families in
this situation, and so set up SLM Care Services to share his experience and
passion to help families and their loved ones when they start experiencing
similar circumstances.
